Program Updates

Assisted Living

Assisted Living is the program which oversees basic homecare needs for Elders in need. Currently there is a total of 6 elders in the program.  There is a need to find another homemaker that could provide services for 3 elders. This program reports to Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) yearly in July for both Income Assistance and Assisted Living.

Community Wellness Committee

Currently there are 5 child and family cases, and as with the Community Wellness Committee, there will be some training coming up from CSFS. So far, we have a small Committee including, myself, and the Health Team. We hope to be doing monthly lunches for our elders again which will be prepared at the health clinic and deliver.

Family Violence Program

The Family Violence Program is funded by Indigenous Services Canada with a proposal and reporting to keep it going. We fund community events including the Annual Salmon Festival, Indigenous Day Christmas Party, Halloween, and other events.

National Child Benefit Resource

The National Child Benefit Resource also funded by Indigenous Services Canada is responsible for the hot meal programs at Fraser Lake Elementary and Secondary Schools and Stellat’en Headstart. Also funded are child/family support, community events, culture enrichment, Christmas gifts for children, food vouchers and fuel.

Stellat'en Community Kitchen

Stellat’en Community Kitchen is funded by Indigenous Services Canada. Elder’s meals once a day are covered and our member Betty Ann Heron does a great job delivering to all. All catering expenses paid from this.

Emergency Assistance

Emergency Assistance that was once named as Hardship, is another program overseen by the social development manager. There is a new policy and application form that is to be used to better manage this program and make sure it is used as a hardship only resource for those in need. Also, the Elders in need use this program.

Youth Support Worker

Prevention Dollars is funded by Indigenous Service Canada (ISC) and Carrier Sekani Family Services. The Youth Support Worker is funded through the Prevention Dollars.  Chastity Casimel is our Youth Support Worker and she keeps the youth busy with various activities and weekly youth meetings. Please contact her directly to check on the activities as you will need to sign a parental consent form.
