Dictionary Launched

Stella and Nadleh First Nations continue to revitalize and maintain our language and culture. Our communities have invested and supported language revitalization planning, advocacy and immersion for almost a decade. We have been able to accomplish the mapping and developing of a dictionary. Access to the language supports and tools is critically important in reaching our goal of building the fluency of our language to our children and adult learners.

The positive development of this important tools was accomplished with the assistance of our Knowledge Keepers and valuable Elders input and guidance. We acknowledge both of our Communities’ Elders who also contributed their time, efforts and energy. We also thank both the Stellat’en and Nadleh Language Committees for their assistance and coordination.

We dedicate these new investments, progress and achievement to our relations and ancestors that dreamed of this day. There is still more work to do to get to a place where there will be a smooth inter-generational transfer of our language and culture.

Chief Robert Michell, February 2023

Our language is our identity, it connects our communities, and our Dakelh language is tied to our traditional land. We know who we are and where we come from.  We are preserving our cultural heritage, traditional values, and the valuable knowledge for generations yet to be born.
– Chief Larry Nooski, Nadleh Whut’en (May 2019)
