Relevance The ability of people to speak the language of their identified ethnicity is an indicator of the ability of ethnic groups to retain and pass on their culture and traditions to future generations. Language is a central component of cultural identity.

“language diversity is a major contribution to the wealth of every country’s cultural heritage and … there is need for political will and concrete actions to provide the resources needed to preserve this heritage, in particular Indigenous languages”
–  Grand Chief Edward John

Community Garden

Stellat’en First Nations has dedicated two lots to the development of a Community Garden. The purpose of the garden is to supply fresh fruit and vegetables to the community. This year water lines have been installed, and we have spread good topsoil and manure. The garden will eventually have greenhouses and a community meat smokehouse. We hope to fence the garden next year

Community Smokehouse

Norman Charlie and Evan Luggi have been working on our community smokehouse where we will work together and help each-other dry meat beside the community garden.

Thank You to Juanita Heron for all your hard work on making this happen. I hope everyone will be able to attend our Salmon Festival this year and give our community smokehouse a warm welcome into our community!
